Today, the Ford Motor Company released a short video clip of a production-ready Ford GT supercar making test runs on a track. This past summer, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, the GT made history when it took first place on the 50th anniversary of Ford's unprecedented podium sweep at the 1966 race.
The car is remarkable for its implementation of lightweight carbon fiber materials and cutting-edge aerodynamic design. At the heart of the supercar is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that is capable of making more than 600 horsepower, giving it perhaps the best power-to-weight ratio of any production car in the industry.
The first 500 buyers have already been selected and will be receiving their vehicles in 2017 and 2018. Buyers who were passed over during the initial selection process will be given a new opportunity in 2019, and 2020 will be open to new customers. Beginning this month, Ford will begin producing the Ford GT at a rate of one car per day until October 2020.
